DECOREX INTERNATIONAL 2017

September signals design month for me. There are so many fabulous events and exhibitions on with exciting launches of new products, brands and Autumn/Winter collections. I would love to get to them all - 100% Design, London Design Festival, Focus at Chelsea Harbour to name but a few, but this year I decided to focus on a visit to Decorex. The beautiful setting of Syon Park sets the tone for a lovely day exploring the latest collections, making new connections and catching up with existing ones. Being a country girl, there is something quite comforting about taking a tea break in the cafe and seeing a field of cows over the fence!

Here are some highlights from my visit:

PINCH

Formed in 2004, Pinch describe their work as ''Our work celebrates simplicity of form, the purity of a good shape and our emotional connection with the materials around us''.

Gorgeously simple designs that really resonate with my style aesthetic. I have seen their work before at design shows and it never fails to strike a chord with me. I have to admit I was a sucker for the miniature versions too, I fancy kitting out Herb the Bon guinea-pig with a PINCH home! Check them out here.

A RUM FELLOW

A Rum Fellow is a London design studio dedicated to artisan crafted rugs and textiles. Founded by Caroline Lindsell and Dylan O’Shea the studio explores heritage craft techniques and reinterprets them in their house style of intricate pattern and vibrant colour.

My favourite had to be the Nica Brocade fabric - a handcrafted brocade fabric produced by Maya master weavers.

This extraordinary textile is made on a backstrap loom in Guatemala by Maya artisans who embroider the intricate pattern as they weave the base cloth. Every element of the complex design is meticulously hand stitched, a process that takes up to a month to create a single panel.

A Rum Fellow work with Maya weaving cooperatives in Guatemala to create these works of art on cloth. Check out A Rum Fellow here.

These gorgeous framed panels caught my eye, these colours seem to be ones I am currently drawn to at the moment and ones that seem to be on trend as I explored Decorex. Rich teal green, berry tones and dusky coral are all shades I will be wearing and advocating this season. All in all it was a very inspiring creative day out at Decorex 2017.
