THE exhibition MATERIAL : EARTH at Messums Wiltshire, in the 700 year old tithe barn at Tisbury, celebrates the use of clay in contemporary art, by leading contemporary potters and ceramic artists, including Grayson Perry, Edmund de Waal, Hans Coper and Sandy Brown.
The exhibition explores the art of making and the use of natural materials in contemporary art.
Alongside this, I really enjoyed the supersized sculptures of Sean Henry around the site. Messums Wiltshire describe the work of Sean Henry;
'Henry describes the theme of his work as βthe tension between the making and staging of figures that seem to belong to the real world, and the degree to which they echo our experiences and sympathiesβ. His sculptures are modeled in clay before being finished by the artist using oil and other paints, on either a cast bronze or ceramic surface'.
